At the core of these tires, a 3-ply TLR casing (with 60TPI per ply) with an optimized overlap between the plies imparts these tires with outstanding handling characteristics, excellent puncture resistance, and remarkably low rolling resistance. Not to be outdone, wrapped around this casing is Specialized's Gripton T5 compound, which outfits these tires with incredible traction in all conditions while maintaining a level of wear resistance normally found in mountain bike tires. Taking advantage of that remarkable compound is a unique tread pattern that has a compact central tread pattern that creates a freely rolling tire when ripping down hardpack trails; the tread knobs then change shape and become more widely spaced as the tire transitions to the shoulder blocks for predictable traction when it is time to start leaning into a corner, culminating in shoulder knobs that will dig into any terrain for truly impressive cornering capabilities.
