The Shimano GRX RX870 wheels are designed to exponentiate the gravel experience, helping riders go faster, further, and have more fun. Wide gravel tires need a wide rim to maintain lateral tire stability at the low air pressures that we all love to run. Shimano studied this complicated relationship between tire size, rim width, air pressure, and tire lateral rigidity to optimize the GRX rim width for 32-50c tires. Shimano GRX RX870 Carbon Gravel Wheelset (Black) (Shimano HG 11/12) (700c)
I have put 527 miles on these and so I far I am loving them. Shipping was timely and as described. They came true right out of the box. The hubs felt a wee tight, but I decided to not mess with the cones and see how the hub settled. Well, I have had to make zero adjustments to the wheel since installation. I also live in a mountainous area and do lots and lots of gravel and moderate singletrack riding. I recall this about 12" drop-off from one transition to the next, I was tired and mis-calculated my approach. I essentially landed hard on the front wheel, to where I heard a loud carbon cracking/popping sound and the spokes were ringing like they had just gotten plucked. I was so worried I had damaged the front wheel or knocked it out of alignment, as this was one of the first rides on this wheelset. I got home and inspected the whole wheel/rim and there was no damage, no cracks, no misalignment. THESE WHEELS ARE STRONG. Since that incident I have had no issues or have no fears with these wheels. Finally, these wheels are fast. Once my hub loosened up or broke in, I have been breaking old gravel records on Strava and have been matching some of my road bike paces. These wheels are fast, durable, and come with the Shimano quality. I would buy again.
