Unior 1695.1A Pedal Reamer & Tap Description:

The Unior 1695.1A Pedal Reamer & Tap is a tool that is designed to remove damaged pedal threads from a crankarm and prepare the crank arm to have a new pedal thread insert installed. Premium Flex Plus hardened high carbon steel is used in the construction of the tool to create a rugged tool that will stay sharp even with repeated use. The reaming portion of this tool has a slight taper so as it is turned and pushed through the damaged threads it will take small amounts of material away until the tap portion of the tool is reached. The taps will then engage with the freshly reamed hole to start adding threads so the pedal thread insert can be permanently installed. Squared end of tap accepts either Unior's tap handle or in a pinch an adjustable wrench can be used to run this tool through the crank arm.

Features:

  • Premium Flex Plus hardened high carbon steel are rugged to hold up to repeated shop use and to stay sharp for easy use/operation
  • Tapered reaming section easily removes damaged pedal threads to prepare crank arms for the next step in the repair
  • After reamer portion does its bit, tap portion of this tool will cut new threads into the crank arm to prepare the arm for installing the new pedal thread insert (otherwise known as a helicoil; thread inserts/helicoil are sold separately)
  • Tool is available in right side and left side specific threading
    • The left or right side of the bike is determined from the viewpoint of the riding position on a bicycle
    • Right side of the bike is traditionally the side of the bike that has the chain and gears, as viewed from the riding position
    • Left side of the bike is traditionally the side of the bike that does not have any gears, as viewed from the riding position; if the bike is equipped with disc brakes, these brakes are traditionally mounted on the left side of the bike
    • Left-side drive BMX bikes or tandem bicycles with two sets of cranks (captain and stoker) still maintain the same rules as traditional bikes, so as you are riding the bike, your right hand and right foot is on the right side of the bike, and this is the side that the right side tool is intended for, and the same rules apply to the left side of the bike and tap tools
